Residential Unit
Welcome to Ysgol Hendrefelin Residential Unit. We are located in the Bryncoch Site of YHF and are one of only 5 Residential Schools in Wales.
We pride ourselves on providing high levels of care whilst promoting increased levels of independence.
We are currently able to offer placements of up to 12 pupils a night. The pupils are supervised by a dedicated team of staff who aim to help the pupils develop skills that will benefit them as they mature. The pupils are encouraged to develop basic self-help and independent living skills, including personal hygiene routines, bed making, and use of the washing machine and cooking.
The pupils are also encouraged to gain a higher level of independence training which will prepare them for independent adult life. These include self-advocacy skills, appropriate use of leisure time, independent travelling, self-catering, and shopping.
What does your child need to bring with them?
We provide all bedding and towels for use whilst in the Residential Unit.
We would need you to provide the following items for your child when they are residing with us.
Change of clothing
Pyjamas
Dressing gown
Slippers
Shower gel
Shampoo/Conditioner
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Deodorant
For the weeks we have swimming planned as an activity, we would need you to provide swim wear and a swim towel for your child.
We allow each Pupil to bring in £4 maximum to spend on a drink and a snack during the evening. We have a tuck shop on site where pupils can buy such items and we also visit the shop where these can be purchased.
Please avoid sending in expensive equipment such as mobile phones, games consoles, ear buds etc, as we cannot ensure these are kept safe at all times.
