Science Investigation

Here is this term's exciting investigation. Class 3 have been exploring the properties of waterproof materials through a hands-on science experiment. This experiment is perfect for encouraging curiosity and scientific thinking in our young learners. Class 3 tested 4 different materials to find out which material would be best suited for an umbrella. (Materials tested: felt, cling-film, foil and nylon).

Class 3 got started by discussing what they already knew about waterproof materials. Students were then able to ask questions and make predictions on which materials they thought would be waterproof.

Once all the predictions were in, pupils went straight into the action and began to organise their investigation. Class 3 had to collect their testing materials and follow instructions to set up the experiment.

When everything was set up, the class then had to follow the method to complete the investigation. All pupils got the opportunity to take up different roles within the investigation. They then observed the different materials and made notes on the changes throughout the investigation.

When the investigation was complete, Class 3 discussed the results and were able to compare them to their initial predictions. Pupils were then able to summarise their findings and discuss the different materials with greater understanding.

The pupils concluded that Nylon was the most suitable material for an umbrella. They also expressed an understanding of different uses for each material tested. After our class discussion, pupils were able to record their results.

Well done, Class 3!
