Person Centred Reviews
At Ysgol Hendrefelin we have been carrying out Person Centred Reviews for some time involving the views, wishes and feelings of the child and the child’s parent, or the young person, are at the heart of the decision-making process.
A range of PCP approaches are used in School in line with what is available on both the Local Authority and Welsh Government websites.
If a child or young person has ALN that requires Additional learning provision (ALP) then they will have an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
The Local Authority maintains the IDPs for those learners who have the most complex or severe needs or those who are looked after by the local authority.
The children in Ysgol Hendrefelin will all have a Local Authority maintained IDP. Each of them has a Review once a year to discuss progress and make plans for the future.
The child and their family are central to this process and are joined in their review by other professionals that are also there to contribute to the young person’s plan.
The Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) facilitates the Review and in preparation for this gathers information from the class teacher and key staff.
The Reviews are held each year at the school and/or ‘virtually’ using ‘Teams,’ a video conference tool. The link for these meeting are sent as an email, along with a letter and phone call as a reminder of the date. We do our best to accommodate a time and date suitable to you.
We aim for our Reviews to be as relaxed as possible, and we seek to gather everyone’s views on how to best support and meet the needs of each child or young person.
The Review focuses on the pupil’s aspirations for the future; what is working well for them and what positives changes we would like to see. From this discussion, we will agree on priorities and set outcomes for the next year to help achieve these.
