Eco schools at Ysgol Hendrefelin

Our Eco Committee—made up of pupils and staff—meets regularly to discuss ways we can improve our school’s environmental impact. We look at key areas such as energy use, waste, water, biodiversity, and healthy living. The children take the lead in planning projects, running campaigns, and raising awareness across the school.

Recent projects have included:
- Setting up a food share scheme to reduce our food waste.
- Setting up new recycling bins and encouraging everyone to reduce waste.
- Encouraging the ban of single use plastics.

- Planting wildflowers and creating bug hotels to support local wildlife.

-Looking at our school menu to reduce our carbon footprint

-Joined Energy Sparks to monitor our use of energy across the school

By working together, we’re learning that small changes can make a big difference. Our goal is to earn and maintain our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, showing our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment.

We’re proud of how our pupils are developing responsibility, teamwork, and a real passion for caring for the world around them. The Eco-Schools journey is helping us all become more thoughtful, sustainable citizens—both now and for the future.
